If you’re a baby boomer and currently overweight, and unfortunately this seems to be the case with more of us, than online nutritional programs are the best bet for you at the beginning of your journey back to health and fitness because it allows you to workout at your pace from the comfort of your home.

Good nutrition is essential to the success of your over 50 workout program!

Fitness and nutrition go hand in hand. If you want to be fit, you need to create a proper diet plan for yourself. It does not mean you cannot eat your favorite foods on occasion or have to starve yourself, but it does mean you to need eat the foods that can help you stay healthy and fit. Just making a list of items that are unhealthy or difficult to burn off and avoiding them can help you tremendously in your fitness program. You could start by replacing sugary snacks for fruit or switching to water instead of sodas and eating a small handful of healthy nuts (e.g., almonds or walnuts) as a healthy snack.

Although proper nutrition is important for people of all ages, it plays even a bigger role in an over 50 workout plan. You likely know that as you get older, your metabolism slows which means it’s harder to burn the same number of calories. You have to start changing what you eat and include some exercise of course. For losing weight and building muscles, it is essential that you eat right. Exercising alone cannot make you look healthy and fit if you do not have control over what you eat; some experts believe your diet is about 80% responsible for the way you look.

The food we eat and the supplements we take help us to provide energy and the building blocks our body needs. Eating several small meals throughout the day is better on your body and helps it run more efficiently and increases your metabolism which will help you stay fit. Eating a healthy diet always leads to increased fitness and enhances your performance; I know because I’ve directly noticed a difference in my performance when I run races or play basketball since I’ve started eating better and maintained a good level of overall fitness. Over time, you will see huge improvements that will give the energy and body that you want.
